7 Habits for Happy Skin

We all know someone with perfect skin. How do they do it? The secret is simple, and not very secret after all - it all boils down to routine and lifestyle!

Product Choice

This may seem obvious, but often it goes unforgotten. Everyone’s skin is different, and there are a huge variety of skincare products that cater to specific needs! Oily and acne prone skin may require a slightly more astringent product (say, Lavender Skin Cleanser) to help combat clogged pores, but keep the skin healthy. Dryer skin will need something much less harsh and more emollient (like our Rose Water Cleanser) that will help regenerate the cells and soothe the skin. This goes for everything you put on your skin, from cleansers and scrubs to toners and creams - your skin is unique just like you!

Hydration + Healthy Diet

“You are what you eat” is no joke! Every part of the body is connected, even the skin, so what you put in it affects the skin just as much as what you put on it. The number one thing to remember is to stay hydrated - water is the skin’s best friend! Carrying around a water bottle with you throughout the day may help remind you to get your daily dose of h2o. If you drink caffeine in the morning (or throughout the rest of the day) remember to balance out each cup of coffee or tea with a glass of water - this will help your body stay hydrated and it will help you feel amazing! As far as foods go, try your best to stay away from sugar and processed foods. Eating fruits, veggies (especially green ones), nuts, seeds, and other simple, non-processed foods do wonders for the health of your skin.

Moisturize

While drinking enough water throughout the day is super beneficial, it is so important to moisturize your skin directly. After cleansing, some of the naturally occurring oils produced by your skin are stripped, so it’s your job to help the skin by applying a moisturizer (the specific product will, again, depend on your skin type!) after you wash your face. If possible, moisturize in the morning and again before bed - we guarantee you will love the results!

Sunscreen

We know you love the sun (we do too!) but, unfortunately, the sun is not a friend to skin. Even on cloudy days, UV rays peak through and damage unprotected skin. It is so important to be proactive in fighting sun damage - and it’s so easy! Every morning (yes, even during winter) when you are getting ready for your day, apply a layer of sunscreen to protect yourself. There are a lot of great, natural, eco-friendly sunscreens out there just waiting for you!

Exfoliate

Exfoliation is truly magical for the skin. While it can be tempting to exfoliate every single day, we recommend sticking to 2 or 3 times per week as to not damage your skin. We offer a very nice variety of facial and body scrubs for all different skin types - you will not believe how luxuriously soft your skin feels after using them! One word of warning - we always recommend staying away from chemical exfoliants as they can cause a lot of damage to your skin. Physical exfoliants provide results that are just as good (if not better!) and are totally safe.

Clean Your Brushes

Glitter, sparkles, fancy eyeliner...who doesn’t love putting on makeup?! If you are like us and wear powder foundation every day (hello extra layer of sun protection!), your brushes probably tend to get a little gunky. It is super important to clean them regularly to avoid having bacteria build up, in turn being transferred to your face! We recommend washing your brushes once every two weeks to keep them sanitary, and we love using a gentle, natural dish soap with a little dab of olive oil to make sure they stay soft - click here for instructions!

Sleep

Beauty rest is for everyone, not just for fairytale princesses!! While we sleep, the skin gets a chance to regenerate and heal from all the free radicals that were hurled at it all day long. Make sure you wash your bed sheets regularly - natural oils from the skin can build up over time, and no one wants to press their face into that all night!

Making these small changes in your life can leave you feeling incredible - inside and out!
