Beautiful Hands Part 2

Touching loved ones, meeting new friends, caring for ourselves – our hands are one of our most important parts. We look at them all day long and usually take them for granted. Last week we shared some simple ideas to help you maintain your hard working fingers. This week, we’re sharing a few more tips with you to help get your hands feeling and looking happy and cared for!

Sensitive Skin

All skin is different, so it is important to find the product that works best for you. If your skin is on the more sensitive side, it may be difficult to find the right kind of moisturizer or even soap! To start, make sure none of your products contain any synthetic fragrances or harsh preservatives. My favorite gentle hand soap is Everyone Hand Soap which can be found online or at most local health food stores; it contains a mixture of essential oils, coconut derived cleansers, a blend of chamomile, aloe, calendula, and white tea extracts to help moisturize, and vitamins B5 and E to help keep skin soft and smooth.

Lotion for sensitive skin is just as simple as finding a gentle soap! Our Rough Skin Cream is gentle on skin and doesn’t contain popular irritants such as fragrance oils and harsh chemicals. If you need something even gentler, I suggest our unscented Luscious Lotion. You’ll only need to use a little on your hands, and it contains to fragrances or essential oils – its only job is to moisturize! If that is still too much for your sensitive fingers, try massaging a small amount of coconut oil into your skin to help with dryness.

Rough Cuticles

Rough cuticles can be the biggest pain in the you-know-what, I’m speaking from experience. While I do love getting my nails done, I generally opt for DIY manicures at home to save time and money. If you prefer taking care of your hands yourself as well, it is super important to remember to maintain your cuticles before they get out of hand (get it?) and begin causing hang nails and cuts. The first thing you can do is, you guessed it, moisturize! Having dry hands is a major cause of rough cuticles, so nipping that in the bud and applying lotion to your hands after washing them and before bed will help keep cuticles soft. Like we discussed last week, hands need sun protection! Subjecting your hands to sun damage will also cause dry, painful skin and wild hang nails. If moisturizing and protecting aren’t enough to keep your cuticles under control, you may want to start a cuticle routine for yourself every one-two weeks. First, soak your fingers in warm water and a little olive oil or cuticle remover. Then, using a towel or a cuticle pusher, gently push back cuticles and apply cuticle oil, like our Revitalizing Nail Serum, which can be used daily to help keep nails strong and cuticles smooth!. Try to avoid cutting cuticles as much as possible as this can lead to cuts and hang nails!
