5 Ways to Love the Earth

As we all just celebrated Earth Day – we wanted to take the time to remind our friends that every day can be Earth day. Humans have such a huge impact on the planet, it’s so important to do our part in making that a positive impact and not a negative one. Read on to learn 5 easy ways you can do your part!

Recycle and Reuse!

From plastic grocery bags or cosmetic containers to drinking straws and Styrofoam plates – human’s use so many day to day items that wind up right in the trash. Luckily, there are ways to avoid many of these things so that you can create less waste, in turn helping the Earth stay healthy. Reusable grocery bags are very popular, easy to store, and pretty inexpensive – they can be found almost anywhere including amazon! Most cosmetic containers can be reused, and if not they can (hopefully) be recycled like your empty Gifts From the Earth containers! Things like straws, Styrofoam plates, plastic disposable water bottles, etc. are just not necessary – plus, it’s cheaper to avoid those things! Try and see what day to day disposable items you can replace with something more sustainable – you’ll be surprised what you find!

Make Smart Product Choices

So many cleaning products, cosmetics, soaps, and perfumes are loaded with harmful chemicals that hurt the planet as well as you. Try to buy exclusively natural cleaners and other products if you can – there are so many options online and in stores these days that it’s pretty easy to avoid the bad stuff. While shopping for new products, keep an eye out for any artificial fragrances or chemicals and go for the products with all natural ingredients instead. This involves taking some extra time to read labels, but doesn’t that seem worth it to protect our planet?

No More Junk Mail

Did you know the average household receives at least 6 pieces of junk mail per day? Junk mail kills over 2.6 million trees per year, and contributes nearly 1 billion pounds of landfill waste every year. When you’re going through your mail, take a minute to look through it – do you receive unnecessary bank statements or other bills that you can receive electronically instead? Are there other mailing lists that you don’t want to be a part of? Cutting down on the amount of junk mail your household receives can greatly impact the Earth – we should all give it a shot!

Save Water for The Fishes

Yes, long showers are a relaxing and calming treat that we all indulge in from time to time – but you know who doesn’t enjoy that extra water use? The planet. Try to cut down on the amount of time you leave water running from the shower, sinks, hoses, or in any other capacity. Make sure your dishwasher and laundry loads are big ones so that you can clean more items at once, fix the leaky faucet in your kitchen, or the toilet that always runs too long. Water is a precious resource that isn’t unlimited – we have to do our part to make sure we have enough to go around!

Shop Local

Buying from local businesses has many benefits – stimulating your local economy, supporting your friends and neighbors, and helping to reduce the use of habit loss, pollution, and natural resources that larger companies cause. Because they are local, it will take fewer resources to ship the items to their destination before you buy them! Plus, who doesn’t love going to a local super market or coffee shop?!
